practice

Swimmer practice expectations

  • Arrive a few minutes early and be ready to get in the pool at the designated start time

  • Arrive with proper equipment

    • Swim Cap

    • Swim Suit (no swim trunks for boys)

    • Towel

    • Goggles

    • No heavy swim shirts

parent practice expectations

  • Drop your swimmer off on time, ensuring they are swim ready (cap & goggles on) at their practice start time.

  • Parents need to remain on the perimeter of the pool deck away from swimmers as to not interfere or distract from instruction. This is particularly critical for our 6 & under group as they are typically the newest to the sport and need to learn to look to their coaches for guidance.

  • Talk to coaches at the end of practice, not during. Focus needs to stay on the swimmers’ instruction and safety. Because practice times are back-to-back, depending on the discussion required, arrangements need to be made to touch base with coaches outside of the normal practice window. Email is appropriate to coordinate in these circumstances.

nashville swim league rules

open vs. novice - new changes for 2024 season

  • Open/Novice delineation for dual meets has been eliminated. This will allow our dual meets to run MUCH faster!

  • Open/Novice classifications for City Meet have been eliminated for 10 & Under swimmers. Open/Novice classifications at City Meet will remain for 11 & U swimmers only. Prior year City Meet placement has been eliminated as criteria for Open classification. Open entries will be based solely on qualifying times in the age group the swimmer is in prior to June 1st.

  • As it relates to the meet event order in Swimmingly, changes have been made to accommodate the changes to the Open/Novice categories, as well as the introduction of the Mixed Medley Relay for 2024! The order of events has been modified to move the Medley Relay to the beginning of the meet, and have the Mixed Medley be the last event (the Freestyle Relay will be in the middle). Each team for the Mixed Medley relay will consist of two girls and two boys, each swimming one of the four strokes, and will not apply to 6 & Under swimmers. The Mixed Medley is an event that is swum at all levels of competitive swimming and will be an exciting addition to the meet lineup!

Meet Entries per child

  • Regular Season meets: Max. 2 individual events, Individual medley, and 3 relays

  • City Meet: Max. 3 individual events, Individual medley, and 3 relays

age groups

Note: Age as of June 1st determines a child’s competitive age for the remainder of the season

  • 8 & under

  • 9 & 10

  • 13 – 14

  • 15 – 18
